Joeri Januarius obtained a Master's degree in History at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2005 and obtained a Master's in journalism at the Erasmushogeschool in Brussels. His master's thesis analyzed the relationship between the socialist trade union ABVV and the compulsory unemployment insurance in postwar Belgium (1945-1970). As of September 2006, he is a researcher at the History Department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He focuses on material culture, everyday life and consumption of workers in postwar Belgium, with a special focus on visual sources and methodology. Since 2007, he is preparing a Ph.D. on that same topic and as of September 2009, he is also associated with the Communication Department as research assistent.
