Kim Van der Borght is Professor of International Economic Law at the Centre for Economic Law & Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). He is Reader in Law at Westminster University (England) and Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Georgia (USA).

He is President of the Belgian Branch of the International Law Association.

He is on the Editorial Board of Human Rights and International Legal Discourse (Intersentia Publishers) and corresponding editor for International Legal Materials (American Society of International Law).

He is coordinator of the European Consortium supporting the Institute of Law at Birzeit University, Palestine.

He is an accredited arbitrator (CEPINA), a legal adviser on issues of international trade, investment and intellectual property rights affiliated to the dispute settlement programme of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), a member of the International Trade Law Committee of the International Law Association and listed on the Roster of Panellists of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). He is an independent advisor for the Strategic Council on the International Relations of the Flemish Region, a governmental advisory body.

He has held a visiting position or has given guest lectures at the Brussels School of International Studies (University of Kent at Canterbury), Columbia University Law School, Shanghai University, Tongji University, Hainan Institute for Reform and Development, Hainan University, Xiamen University, University of Georgia, City University of Hong Kong, Kansas University, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Moscow State University, University of Catanzaro, University of East London and Birzeit University.

In April 2009, Kim Van der Borght was appointed a member of the Peer Review College of the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), one of the main funders of academic research in the UK, for the period 2010-2013. This important position involves advising the Council on its decisions concerning research funding applications.
