Thesis Title: Networks of State and Capital: War, entrepreneurs and state formation in the Southern Netherlands (1700-1765)
About
Thomas Goossens obtained a Master's degree in History at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2007, defending a Master's thesis entitled "Dou best eenen slegte keerl: delinquent gedrag bij jongeren in Maastricht en omgeving, 1795-1830" [Juvenile delinquency in and around Maastricht, 1795-1830].
He is currently working on a Ph.D. on eighteenth century military logistics. With the Southern Netherlands between 1700 and 1765 as chosen case study, the focus of the research is on the interaction between states, armies and entrepreneurs: how these relations changed over the course of the eighteenth century and whether and how they affected the creation of centralized bureaucratic states.
